HEMOPHILIA ALLIANCE JOE PUGLIESE EDUCATIONAL AWARD APPLICATION

Description:

The Hemophilia Alliance, The Alliance Pharmacy, and the Hemophilia Alliance Foundation are pleased to support the 2026-2027 Joe Pugliese Educational Award.  This award is a scholarship provided annually to individuals diagnosed with an inherited bleeding or inherited thrombotic disorder who are active patients in a federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, in support of post-secondary educational pursuits.

The 2026-2027 education award will provide each of four recipients with $12,500 for tuition and/or any qualified educational expense to be used within one academic year of award receipt. 

It is a shared goal of the Hemophilia Alliance and the Hemophilia Alliance Foundation that this scholarship program continues for many years to help support individuals with inherited bleeding or inherited thrombotic disorders throughout their education.

Qualified Expenses:

  • Tuition
  • Housing or food expenses
  • Tools or instruments required for educational program
  • Books, computers or other supplies

Eligibility:

  • The scholarship applicant must be an individual diagnosed with an inherited bleeding or inherited thrombotic disorder, and an active patient of a federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center:
  • The applicant must be:
    • a high-school senior with the goal of attending a community college, a four-year college/university or vocational-technical school; or
    • A current student already pursuing a community college, four year college/university, post undergraduate degree, or a trade license/certification; or
  • An adult student planning on returning to school to complete their degree or planning to pursue an advanced degree or planning to obtain vocational/technical license/certification.

NOTE: Applicants cannot be a relative of a staff member or Board member of the Hemophilia Alliance, the Hemophilia Alliance Foundation, or The Alliance Pharmacy (TAP).

Academic Enrollment:

Applicants must be currently enrolled or preparing to enroll in a college, university, vocational, technical, or a post undergraduate degree program for the 2026/2027 academic year. 

How To Apply:

  • Interested applicants need to complete the online application form.
  • Include a 1000 word or less personal essay detailing educational and future career goals, as well as how this scholarship award will help to reach those goals, and why the applicant should be selected.
  • Include details on pertinent extracurricular activities, work experiences, and awards or honors.
  • Include a letter of recommendation on HTC letterhead from a healthcare professional at the applicant’s Hemophilia Treatment Center which confirms that the applicant is an active patient AND why the applicant should receive the award.
  • Provide one additional letter of recommendation from either a current educational institution representative or from an individual, not related, with knowledge of the applicant’s character and academic success.
  • Provide documentation of acceptance or enrollment from an education institution, such as a current school schedule, invoice, or statement of account from the school.

 Application Timeline:

  • February 27,2026:  Application acceptances begin
  • April 10, 2026:  Deadline for completed application
  • Week of May 17, 2026:  Interviews with Finalists
  • Week of May 24, 2026:  Notification of awards

Scholarship Award Recipient Selection:

  • Applications will be reviewed and scored by the Scholarship Committee of the Hemophilia Alliance Foundation.
  • Essay will count as 60% of application’s total score.
  • Virtual interviews will be scheduled with all finalists.
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
